A memorable sunset from the slopes of the western Organ Mountains,
with Torrey Yuccas and Ocotillos in silhouette.

| *There is a dark side to El Niño. Plentiful rains mean greatly increased plant growth, and a corresponding increase in flammable undergrowth. The possibility of wildfire is therefore boosted. The above image is borne of fire, with smoke on the western horizon causing the low light to tint the space around the setting sun with rich colors. The setting is typical of the Chihuahuan Desert. On the left, in silhouette, are the dagger-like leaves of a Mountain Torrey Yucca, and scattered here and there are the branches of Ocotillo. |
