*These handsome  flowers are members of the Spiderlily family (Hymenocallis sp.), Species of the Spiderlily occur native in several states in the American Southeast, and throughout the West Indies  (1) . The flowers pictured above are Caribbean Spiderlilys (Hymenocallis caribaea (L.) Herbert ), the image above being acquired on Grand Cayman Island in July, where it was found among several that were growing free.  It is an especially attractive plant, and often overlooked.  When the flowers are closely examined , they appear almost surreal.
