Beautiful Marine Sponges

Caribbean Underwater Photography Gallery II

* A strikingly beautiful marine habitat.  Dominant is the Red Cup Sponge (Mycale sp.).  This sponge appears glossy black till illuminated by the underwater strobe.  Directly above the sponge are the yellow-gold arms of the Crinoid (Nemaster rubiginosa).  Along the right of the image is a large unidentified Gorgonian with polyps extended.  In the right background can be seen a Sea Feather (Pseudopterogorgia sp.), and to the bottom left is a Rope Sponge, perhaps (Haliclona hogarthii).  The touch of green is Deep-reef algae (Halimeda copiosa).
